DIVERSITY IS A GOD’S PREDESTINE
O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a
male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each
other (not that you may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in
the sight of God is (he who is) the most
righteous of you . And God have full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all
things).
Qur'an, Al Hujuraat (49):13

The people of North Sumatra are Melayu,
Batak, Javanese, Chinese, Tamil and Arab. The majority are Melayu, Batak and
Javanese.
The majority of Batak are Christians, the Javanese, Malays and Arab are mainly Moslems.
In 2001 some terrorists or their
symphatizers from Sulawesi and Ambon came to Medan, the capital of North
Sumatra and they threw Molotov bombs to seven churches in the hope that the Christians
will thought that the disturbances were
from the Moslems. The terrorists were thinking that the Christians would be
angry and avenging by burning mosques.
The Christian leaders and moslems leaders
understood that the bombings were not done by local people. The Christians and
Moslems know from history and experience that they have been living together for more than 200 years without
problems.
They
have heard about the riots in Maluku and other places. So the leaders persuaded their
people to stay in order. Later the suspects were arrested by the police.
The people of North Sumatra didn’t response
of those bombings and by doing so they have helped themselves to save lifes and
properties.
Diversity is the nature of Indonesian people and they have live
with it for many hundred of years.
